02 October 2015 - As a global leader in the apparel industry, the name HUGO BOSS is synonymous with premium quality, innovative products and continuing economic success. We understand that HUGO BOSS shares responsibility for adhering to sustainability standards along a complex global value chain and strive to uphold the highest principles. Fair working conditions, freedom of association and the well-being and safety of our employees, as well as those associated with us; is fundamental for us.
Consequently, we take the allegations of worker rights violations at our supplier Topy Top in Peru very seriously. Therefore, HUGO BOSS is in direct contact with the supplier Topy Top, as well as collaborating with the Fair Labor Association, in order to assess these allegations. If the accusations should prove justified and the facts show that the given circumstances violate legal requirements or our own Code of Conduct, we will naturally insist that the situation be remedied immediately. Moreover, HUGO BOSS is currently working together with Topy Top to assist in initiating supplementary measures, irrespective of the outcome of the investigation.
In regard to the short-term contracts used by Peruvian textile and garment suppliers, these are in full compliance with the national law. Nevertheless, HUGO BOSS is cooperating with the supplier to make more long-term human resource planning possible. Currently, more than 60% of the staff have already been employed for much longer than the national law requires. If other companies who have their products manufactured by Topy Top would likewise be willing to place long-term orders, this would obviously greatly increase the chances of success. Topy Top has assured us that it is standard procedure before conducting layoffs by management to verify whether there is any possibility of maintaining employees; and will continue to do so in the future.
Dialog with Topy Top, Fair Labor Association and IndustriALL Global Union is ongoing.
