Application Advice

  • The cover letter

We’ll be able to classify your application more easily if your cover letter clearly describes which apprenticeship or work/study program you're applying for. Tell us what encouraged you to apply for this apprenticeship or degree program and why you want to do your apprenticeship or work/study program at HUGO BOSS. Let us know exactly why you’re the right person for us.

Many applicants find it hard to write a good first sentence for their cover letters. It’s especially important, however, because it gives you a chance to stand out.

    Not so good:

“I would hereby like to apply for...”

“My name is..., I’m 16 years old, and...”

    “I saw your job advertisement...”

    Better:

“You are looking for an apprenticeship in… ? With my experience as..., I’m the perfect candidate for you.”

“With an internship at... and another at..., I would bring valuable experience to the trainee position open at HUGO BOSS.”

Your aim: get our attention! Begin your cover letter with your strengths or something that makes you special and sets you apart from the other applicants. Remember: We receive a huge number of applications. So we like it when an applicant makes a good first impression right in the very first sentence.

  • The resume

After the cover letter, your resume is the most important part of your application. It contains the most important facts and figures about you in table form. After all, we want to get to know you. That’s why you should list your hobbies in addition to your education and internship experience.

Resumes are comprised of different sections. Some must be included, while others are optional. The following are “must-haves”:

    • Heading: “Resume”
    • Personal information: name, address, telephone and cell phone number, e-mail address, family status (“single” if you’re not married; otherwise, “married”) and nationality. You’re not required to state your parents’ professions, but you can if the information is relevant to our training program. Example: You’re applying for a training program to become a tailor. That is also what your mother does. We then know that she has probably already told you a lot about it and how you came to be interested in that career option.
    • Education: the schools you’ve attended and the diplomas or certificates you earned there. Later, this should include training and college degrees.
    • Professional experience, additional trainings and internships:  If you’ve “only” been to high school so far, this will generally only include internships.
    • Computer skills: this is where you list the programs you’re proficient in.
    • Language skills: this is where you list the languages you know and how well you know them.
    • Hobbies: You can list your personal hobbies here.
    • Place, date, signature: a paper copy of a resume is always signed. This is not necessary for online applications.

You may choose to include the following items in your resume:

    • Personal information: Date and place of birth are not required, but are almost always listed.
    • Application photo: a photo is not mandatory.
    • Other skills: depending on what the requirements for the specific job are, you can use this section to list things such as that you have a driver’s license, or skills that would be important for the position.
    • Volunteer work: If you do volunteer work, you can also add this to your resume.
    • International experience: If you’ve already been abroad, for example, for an internship or as an exchange student, you should include this on your resume.
  • Letters of reference/transcripts

We accept letters of reference from teachers/school staff as well as any professional references, certificates from work experience placements, as well as school reports and certificates. Please send us at least your last two school reports.

  • The photo

We would love to receive a photo of you. However, you are not required to include a photo.

Enough theory – let’s get to the practice! Our job portal lists all open positions for our apprenticeships and work/study programs.
